KEEP OPEN THE MONEY MARKETS

WHEN FIRST Union Bank bought Dominion Bank, the customers were told that First Union was committed to customer service. However, the impending closing of the Money Markets leads me to believe differently.

I moved to Roanoke from Birmingham, Ala., and was delighted with the convenience of the Money Markets [located in several Kroger stores]. My husband and I have a checking and savings account at Tanglewood Money Market, and I worked at Cave Spring Money Market for more than two years.

As a customer and a former employee, I can tell the management at First Union that by closing the Money Markets, they are losing the only thing that sets Dominion Bank apart from the other banks in town.

I urge First Union to reconsider and let the Money Markets do what they do best: offer convenience and a variety of services to customers. THELMA C. SIMPSON ROANOKE
