BEST HOTEL IDEA - BAR NONE

WITH ALL the recent letters regarding overcrowding in the city jail, I am compelled to add my two-cents worth.

Is Ruby still up on Mill Mountain? Perhaps we could reduce her food bill a little. What, you don't like that idea?

How about a special assessment for Warner Dalhouse? Ten percent of his excessive compensation in appreciation for all of the grief he has caused current and former Dominion employees. Deep six that too, huh?

Hey Frank, before you leave town, how about coughing up some of your consulting fees so we can spend it on jail improvements? Sorry, Mr. Turner.

Wait, wait, I've got it! Hotel Roanoke is empty, so how about transferring some of the inmates over there? It could then become a tourist attraction without having to raise cigarette taxes and auto-decal fees. Riding on Interstate 581 toward Tanglewood Mall, a tour-bus driver could announce, "Ladies and Gentlemen, on our right is Hotel Roanoke. It is the only historical landmark in Roanoke used for the common good, and not one extra cent of taxpayer money spent." How dare one suggest that this grand hotel be used for a jail? Because it is criminal the amount of taxpayer money that will be wasted on a losing proposition when all is said and done. MICHAEL R. BOND SALEM
