HENRY'S WORDS WILL OUTLAST WILDER'S

I WAITED to read about Patrick Henry but after giving it some thought, I knew you would not cover his speech. On March 23, 1775, he addressed the Virginia Provincial Convention and uttered his famous words "Give me liberty or give me death." The purpose of his speech was to convince the convention to overrule King George and allow the citizens of Virginia to keep and bear arms. Is this why you did not mention this great event in history?

Recently you gave front-page coverage in the Virginia section to Gov. Wilder when he signed into law a restriction on Virginians' right to obtain arms. It took them 218 years and one day, but they are beginning to tear down all that Henry worked and stood for.

In retrospect I know Virginians and the world will remember Henry, what he accomplished and his words for thousands of years. On the other hand, in a couple of years it will be "Doug who?" ROBERT A. HOUSE BOONES MILL
