WAYNESBORO STUDENTS TOPS IN GEOGRAPHY

Five eighth-graders from Waynesboro claimed a first-place prize Thursday in a national geography competition.

The award was presented at a ceremony at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, where the students were recognized by former President Carter and former astronaut Mae Jemison.

This is the third year that teams from John Pierce's gifted and talented social studies classes at Kate Collins School have entered the American Express Geography Competition and the second year in a row a team from the school has won first place in its category.
