AUTO RACING-RUMLEY LOOKS TO STAY ON TOP

Johnny Rumley of Winston-Salem, N.C., climbed behind the wheel of the Cline family's race car for the first time last Saturday night, then beat 26 drivers to the checkered flag at New River Valley Speedway. Now the Rumley-Cline racing combination is atop the heap as drivers enter the second week of competition tonight in the Winston 200.

Defending track champ Jeff Agnew, Frankie Pennington, Tony McGuire and Ronnie Thomas are expected to be among more than 30 LMSC drivers entering the action at the .416-mile NASCAR track.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice at 4. Qualifying starts at 6:15 with the first green flag at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults with children 10 and under being admitted for $1.

As Franklin County Speedway enters its third week of 1993 racing tonight , promoter Whitey Taylor has put out a bounty on all double winners.

Rick Sigmon (Late Model), Phillip VanDerVeer (Street Stock), Leon Moles (Pure) and Gordon Wingfield (Rookie) recorded victories the past two Saturdays. Taylor is offering a $500 bonus to any driver who can dethrone Sigmon, and a $100 bonus in each of the other divisions.

Tonight's races will begin at 7 rather than 8 as previously advertised. Gates open at noon.
