A DEFENSE OF ADVOCACY JOURNALISM

YOUR EDITORIAL comment on April 2, "AIM and the `My Lai Syndrome' " were greatly appreciated. As a long-time subscriber to the "Accuracy in Media" newsletter, I am gratified to learn that, by your own "rough estimate," about 65 percent of the time I am getting information from AIM unavailable in your newspaper.

I think that you have launched another defense of advocacy journalism. Recently, some big jobs with big salaries in big media markets have been taken away from individuals who lied to the public by manufacturing phony news.

Can it be that AIM and other similar organizations have finally begun to attract your attention? I eagerly await further developments on this issue. DAVID E. SHARRIER MONETA
