FORT CHISWELL'S HILL HAS 3-HITTER

At Floyd, B.W. Hill pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 to carry Fort Chiswell to a 4-1 Mountain Empire District baseball victory over Floyd on Tuesday.

Hill also had two of the Pioneers' six hits.

For the Buffaloes, Monty Moran had all three hits and sophomore Sammy Burton struck out seven in four innings of relief.

In other baseball Tuesday:

At Wytheville, George Wythe scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, then held on to edge Chilhowie 11-10. Chilhowie rallied for three runs in the seventh, but Maroons' reliever Randy Blevins got the final two outs for the save. Tony Callahan hit a fourth-inning homer for George Wythe and Tim Polk went 4-for-4 for the Warriors.

At Glenvar, Jason Anderson pitched a two-hitter and got 16 of 21 outs by strikeout as Glenvar shut out Parry McCluer 3-0. Trevor Willis led the Highlanders with two hits and an RBI.

At Buchanan, Jodie Steger cracked a three-run homer and David Hall drove in four runs as James River defeated Bath County 8-2 in a Pioneer District game. Keith Bryant pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven, and Chico Tolley went 3-for-3 for the Knights (4-4, 4-2). Bath County slipped to 4-2, 4-1.

At Lexington, Norman Vest pitched a two-hit shutout and went 3-for-3 as Rockbridge County downed Salem 3-0. Jasy Mays drove in two runs for the Wildcats.

Nathan Hicks scored two and drove in four to lead Roanoke Valley Christian past visiting Carlisle 9-7 in a Virginia Independent Conference game. The Eagles are 4-3; Carlisle is 0-9.

At New Castle, Johnny Crawford extended his home run streak to four games as Craig County swept a doubleheader from Highland. The Rockets won the first game 9-0 as Crawford hit a two-run double and a two-run homer, and pitched a nine-strikeout one-hitter.

Craig County stole 15 bases in the second game and won 13-1. Ben Boardwine drove in four with a double and a triple and Crawford homered again.

\ BOYS' LACROSSE: At Lynchburg, Robert Worrell had four goals and four assists to lead Rockbridge County to a 14-4 win over Virginia Episcopal School. Doug Hartog added four goals and an assist, and Cole Atkins had three goals with four assists.

\ SOFTBALL: Glenvar used a nine-run sixth inning to earn a 16-6 Pioneer District victory over Parry McCluer. Marilea Hale and Amy Moses had two hits each in the inning for the Highlanders (4-5, 4-1). Moses and Christy Robinson both finished 3-for-5. The Fighting Blues are 7-4, 3-3.

At Allegany, three Mountaineers drove in three runs to help Alleghany defeat Northside 16-6 in a Blue Ridge District game. Tracy Cummings and Alania Bartley were 3-for-3 and Tracy Shaffer was 3-for-5 as Alleghany improved to 4-4, 3-2.

At Salem, Amy Atkins struck out nine, pitched a two-hitter and improved to 4-0 as Salem buried Rockbridge County 15-0. Yo Helm had a double and a homer for the Spartans, and Dee Holiday went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI.

At Collinsville, Temika Hodge had three RBI and four hits, including two doubles and a triple, as Magna Vista blew out Fieldale-Collinsville 18-1. Donna Hickman was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.
