Although Spencer could not be reached for confirmation, Bulldogs coach Husky Hall said Spencer told him Wednesday afternoon that he would sign a letter-of-intent later in the day.
Spencer, also a first-team All-Timesland selection, averaged 18 points this past season in leading Martinsville to a 22-6 record and a spot in the Group AA state semifinals.
"He's a very, very hard worker," said Hall, the Bulldogs' coach for 29 seasons. "I've never had anybody work any harder. He kept a basketball in his hand 24 hours a day."
Spencer, a 6-foot-1 guard, is the Keydets' fourth signee of the spring - three of them perimeter players. He is the first player of Hall's to sign with VMI.
