Morris became president at the college last July. He is a Galax native and Virginia Military Institute graduate, with master's and doctoral degrees in government from the University of Virginia.
Other activities during the week included the opening of an exhibit of 100 new prints made from the Phelps Collection, a group of about 2,000 glass-plate negatives taken in Southwest Virginia from 1900 to 1930.
The prints will be displayed through summer in the Lyceum Room of Kelly Library.
