The designer took a loan from Consolidated Carriers in 1987, when he set up Bob Mackie Knits, an offshoot of his Bob Mackie Originals company, Vanity Fair said. Consolidated, a New York trucking company, was controlled at the time by Thomas and Joseph Gambino, sons of the late mob boss Carlo Gambino. Mackie said the Gambinos are "wonderful, lovely, absolutely terrific people."
The magazine didn't specify how much Mackie borrowed from Consolidated.
