In other softball Monday:
At Cave Spring, five errors led to eight unearned runs and Cave Spring (11-2, 6-0) rolled over William Fleming 16-1 in a Roanoke Valley District game. Ellen Jamison of Cave Spring went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Pam Bogunia went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. For Fleming (0-12 overall), Laurie Simmons went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and pitcher Stacie Reedy went 1-for-3 and stuck out four.
At North Cross, Virginia Episcopal defeated North Cross 8-4 in a non-conference game. Emily Davidson went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Virginia Episcopal (6-4). Blair Calvert went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and drove in all four runs for the Raiders (6-6).
Gretna exploited 10 errors by host Bassett to claim a 14-6 Piedmont District victory. Kim Hughes struck out seven, walked 13, and gave up seven hits to gain the victory for Gretna (11-5 overall, 11-5 in the district). Kim Crews had three and four runs for the winners. Heather Burke was on base five times for Bassett (7-8, 7-8).
Michelle Hudson hurled a nine-strikeout one-hitter as Franklin County flattened visiting Heritage 5-0 in a non-district game. Franklin County is 9-6.
At Brookville, Melissa Dooley and Tandy Gordon each drove in three runs as Liberty (10-3-1) defeated Brookville 15-5 in a Seminole District game.
Roanoke Valley Christian had 38 hits while sweeping a double header from the Virginia School for the Deaf 21-1 and 22-0. RVC is 10-4.
\ SOCCER: At Salem, Sterling Turner and Aaron Gresham each scored three goals as Salem torched Alleghany 13-0. Owen Woodward added two goals for the Spartans.
At Bedford, Joel Allen scored three goals as Liberty routed Jefferson Forest 6-1. John Ayers made seven saves for the Minutemen (8-2). The Cavaliers are 8-1-1.
At River's Edge, North Cross remained unbeaten in the Virginia Independent Conference with a 4-0 victory over Roanoke Catholic. Scoring for the Raiders (13-1-2 overall, 5-0 conference) were Mark Roberts, Eric Mull, Jamie Bell and William Watkins. For the Celtics (4-7, 1-5), goalie Mike Kolnok had 23 saves.
At Buchanan, Rockbridge County rallied from three goals down to defeat James River 8-5.
\ BASEBALL: At Bedford, Greg Reynolds' suicide squeeze bunt scored Jerry Padgett in the bottom of the seventh as Liberty edged Brookville 6-5. Liberty's Curt Goff had three hits, including his seventh home run of the season, a three-run blast.
Jamie Dooley won his first game in relief, striking out eight in four innings. Keith Carter and Jerry Padgett added two hits each for the Minutemen (10-5).
At Covington, the Cougars wiped out Highland County in a Pioneer District doubleheader. Covington won the first game 19-0 behind a five-inning no-hitter by Andy Lambert, who struck out 11 and walked one. Jeff Tucker added three hits. In the second game, Tucker and Morris had two hits each and Jimmy Siers struck out 11 in a three-hitter as the Cougars won 10-0.
Jason Linkswiler had three hits and Kameron Crowder, David Dixon, and Scott Carper combined for nine runs batted in as Alleghany pounded visiting Parry McCluer 18-7 in a non-district game.
