RURAL RETREAT WOMAN WINS HALF OF LOTTO

A Virginia Beach man and a Wythe County woman will split Saturday's $4.3 million Lotto jackpot, a Virginia Lottery spokeswoman said Monday.

Earl "Andy" Boehnlein told lottery officials he was working on a home being built for a 1992 Lotto winner, Melvin Copeland of Suffolk, last week when he jokingly told his co-workers he hoped the man's luck might rub off on him.

Copeland won $9 million in the Lotto game last September.

Boehnlein, 37, will receive $2.15 million. The Olympic Tile & Carpet employee said he will use the money to help his family and to buy a car.

The other winner of Saturday's jackpot, Joan Maxey, also will receive $2.15 million.

Maxey, 63, of Rural Retreat, said she will use her winnings to pay bills. Maxey is a retired teacher's aide.

Both winners said they let the computer pick their tickets. The winning numbers were: 16, 18, 20, 29, 41 and 44.

They received their first payments on Monday of $75,025 after taxes. They will receive an additional 19 payments of $73,100 after taxes.
