OBIT BERRY, SAMUEL GARDNER SR.

BERRY, Samuel Gardner Sr., 70, of Scotts Creek Road, Statesville, N.C., died at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Thursday, April 22, 1993, following a lengthy illness. He was born May 1, 1922, in Washington, D.C., and was a son of the late Blaine and Lula Taylor Berry. He was disability retired since 1973 as a supervisor with the National Security Agency in Ft. George G. Meade, Md. He was a member of Race Street United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was in the U.S. Maritime Service during World War II. On March 20, 1952, he was married to the former Alva Hines, who survives. Also surviving are one son, S. Gardner Berry Jr. of Statesville, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Jeanne B. Smith of Statesville, N.C.; two brothers, Francis Berry of Roanoke, Va., and Eugene Berry of Lee County, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred B. Clark and Mrs. Margaret B. Whorley, both of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson, Adam Wesley Smith of Statesville, N.C. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
