AIR CONDITIONING STILL OUT AT PROJECT

Wednesday night's cool air came as a relief to the residents of Morningside Manor, who still were without air conditioning despite being told the system would be fixed last week.

The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority now says it will be the end of the week - at the earliest - that a contractor can get the system up and running.

"Hopefully, it will be on line by Friday," said Jack Sherman, the authority's maintenance director.

Sherman said all the necessary parts are in hand, but the recent damp weather has presented technical problems for the contractor, G.J. Hopkins Inc.

The five-story housing project in Southeast Roanoke has 105 units.
