GOP TICKET DOESN'T NEED RUDE CANDIDATE

The May 1 news story by staff writers Margaret Edds and Warren Fiske regarding the April 30 Republican debate omitted some important information ("Screaming erupts after GOP debate").

We were not informed that Bobbie Kilberg, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, exhibited extremely rude behavior.

After the conclusion of the debate between Kilberg and Mike Farris, reporters tried to interview Farris. When he began to answer their questions, Kilberg rushed up and rudely interrupted the interview with wild accusations about Farris.

She kept interrupting every time Farris tried to continue the interview. Unable to speak without interruption from Kilberg, he finally walked away.

Rudeness seems to be a habit with Kilberg. Jerry Kilgore, the Republicans' 9th District chairman, asked the candidates present at last month's district meeting to avoid criticizing their opponents during their speeches. He said that would be fair to the candidates not present (who were not permitted to have surrogate speakers). Kilgore also said that it is time to begin to focus on their Democratic opponents.

Kilberg was the only candidate to refuse to honor Kilgore's request. Ignoring it, she launched into a vicious attack on Farris. Her lack of respect for the 9th District chairman was appalling.

The Republican Party would make a big mistake if it nominated Kilberg. Her abrasive, rude behavior would make her a disaster for the Republican ticket. RICHARD SOLANO CHRISTIANSBURG
