HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA FELL SHORT, STAR SAYS

Opera star Camilla Williams has drawn criticism for her refusal to perform as scheduled with a high school orchestra in the city's bicentennial celebration.

Williams, a Danville native who is a professor of voice at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., was to have performed Sunday night with the George Washington High School orchestra. But she took the stage at Auctioneer's Park and told the crowd she would not sing because the students did not know the music.

"She was somewhat rough on the kids," said Eugene Stryker, who was in charge of the music for Danville's 10-day celebration of its 200th birthday.
