ROBB NOMINATES MARTINSVILLE MAN FOR U.S. ATTORNEY

Sen. Charles Robb on Monday nominated Democratic Party supporter Robert P. Crouch Jr. of Martinsville and Arlington County prosecutor Helen F. Fahey as U.S. attorneys for Virginia.

Robb also nominated federal Magistrate Leonie Brinkema for a U.S. District Court judgeship in Alexandria and Assistant U.S. Attorney Raymond A. Jackson for U.S. District Court judge in Norfolk.

The selections must be approved by President Clinton, then confirmed by the Senate.

Crouch, proposed as the Western District's top federal prosecutor, holds political connections to Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mary Sue Terry and the late House of Delegates Speaker A.L. Philpott. He is a lawyer in Martinsville.

Fahey follows the career path of the previous U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Henry Hudson, a Republican, resigned as Arlington County's commonwealth's attorney when he was named U.S. attorney in 1986. Fahey was appointed his replacement, won a special election to fill the post, and has been re-elected twice.
