CHARGE DISMISSED AGAINST BALLPLAYER

An assault charge against a star athlete at a Roanoke high school was dismissed Thursday, after the 18-year-old spent the past two weekends in jail.

Judge John Apostolou had ruled earlier that there was sufficient evidence to convict Shannon Taylor of hitting a girl at Patrick Henry High School, where he is an all-state quarterback and basketball player.

A fight started when Taylor approached the girl in a hallway and asked if she was spreading rumors about him, according to testimony.

But under an agreement reached earlier in Roanoke General District Court, the charge was dismissed after Taylor spent two weekends in jail.
