MISSING-COUPLE SEARCH SPREADS TO ROANOKE

The search for a missing Wythe County couple has spread to Roanoke, where a car similar to theirs was reported seen Friday night on Williamson Road.

"We're not saying that's the car, but it's a car matching the description," state police Sgt. D.A. Shaver said Saturday. "So we're doing everything we can to locate that vehicle and see if it's the car or just a car that's similar in appearance."

Paul Freeman, 85, a retired minister, and his wife, Rebecca, 76, were reported missing Wednesday by a relative. They were last seen Tuesday afternoon leaving a Food Lion store in Wytheville.

Their car is a white 1980 Ford Granada with a maroon top, license number HP23844. State police have used helicopter searches and other means to try to locate it.

Members of Freeman's church, Faith Tabernacle, gathered in Wytheville Saturday to discuss ways they might help.

They are asking area residents to join them at the church on East Marshall Street at 2 p.m. today to carry out a search on foot along roads between the town limits and the couple's home on U.S. 11.

Anyone with information should call (703) 228-3131.
