RELIGION BRIEFS

THE REV. DR. ISAM BALLENGER, a professor at the new Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond, will be the speaker at the annual Harry Y. Gamble Life Renewal Series addresses Sept. 19 and 20 at Calvary Baptist Church, 608 Campbell Ave. S.W.

Ballenger, a former missionary and executive for Southern Baptist work in Europe and the Middle East, is supervising seminarians seeking overseas ministry.

\ THE REV. WILLIAM R. KLEIN has been honored by the congregation of Second Presbyterian Church for his 25 years as its pastor.

Klein, his wife, Dorothy, and two sons came from Rock Hill. S.C., in 1968. He succeeded the Rev. A.H. Hollingsworth, who completed a 25-year tenure and is retired in Roanoke.

\ CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH has added two members to its staff. Renee Ayers will become director of the Noah's Landing Pre-School. She had been a teacher there the past year.

Leah McCormick will work as the nursery attendant.

\ RABBI JEROME FOX of Beth Israel Synagogue has returned from a national conference for Conservative Judaism held in Montreal. There he was on the program and shared in presenting, "The Role of the Rabbi in the Greater Community."

Fox spoke on his teaching Hebrew classes in West Virginia and in the Roanoke Valley for the past 18 years to both Jews and non-Jews interested in enriching their knowledge of the Judeo-Christian heritage.

\ THE SENIOR CHOIR of Jerusalem Baptist Church will observe its 94th anniversary with a concert Sunday at 4 p.m. Performing at the church at 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W. will be the Jerusalem Men's Chorus and choral groups from Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Christ and Sweet Union Baptist, along with the Stuart Jones Ensemble.

\ BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH, 3017 Ivyland Road S.E., will have a special program for deacons and deaconesses on Saturday at 7 p.m. Ella Mae Wade of Reed Street Baptist in Vinton and Donald Andrews of Central Baptist of Roanoke will speak. Several choral groups also will perform.

Homecoming at Bethlehem Church, which serves the Delaney Court community, will be July 4 with the Rev. Thomas A. Woods Sr., pastor, speaking at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Antonio D. Thomas and a choir from Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Roanoke will lead a 3 p.m. special service. Lunch will be available.

\ SOCIETY OF FRIENDS from the Roanoke Valley will meet each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. during July and August in the faculty lounge of Turner Hall at Hollins College. The group of Quakers will resume its meetings for worship in Meditation Chapel in early September. For more information, call 342-9950.
