HENRY COUNTY BOY SHOT, KILLED

Donald Andre Hayden, a 17-year-old from Henry County, died Thursday night at a neighbor's house after he was shot in the head at close range by an acquaintance, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

The person accused of shooting Hayden was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and using a firearm.

The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the suspect's name because he or she is only 15 years old. The suspect is being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Home in Danville.

Investigator P.G. Puckett said the victim and the suspect, who knew each other, had attended a cookout at a neighbor's house just outside Ridgeway in Henry County.

The two were in a bedroom inside the house with several others. "It appears that several friends were in this bedroom and were partying and having a good time, listening to music, dancing," Investigator K.G. Nester said.

The 15-year-old removed a .22-caliber revolver from a drawer, deputies said, and pulled the trigger. The gun did not fire, but when the suspect pulled the trigger again, it did fire.

Deputies said Hayden died at the scene.

Puckett said the gun's owner has not yet been determined.

The suspect had no criminal record, deputies said.
