GROUP RALLIES 'ROUND CONFEDERATE FLAG

Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans held a rally Sunday to return a Confederate flag to the pole outside the Museum of Fine Arts and History.

About 150 people waved Confederate battle flags and other Southern banners on the museum grounds as they listened to music and presentations by the Cabell-Graves Camp of the Southern heritage group.

The museum building is the last Capitol of the Confederacy, where Jefferson Davis stayed for seven days in April 1865. Museum officials recently removed the Third Confederate National Flag after some community members objected to its display.

"If the flag belongs anywhere, it belongs here," said Danny "Tom" Jones Jr., who grew up in Danville.
