\ MICHAEL A. HELLER, assistant professor of English at Roanoke College, has received a grant from the Mednick Fellowships Committee of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges.
He will use the grant funds for travel expenses to Philadelphia this summer to continue his research on John Woolman, a major figure in the early history of human rights in America. He will acquire and edit a book-length collection of Woolman's out-of-print essays and other writings.
\ KATHERINE HOFFMAN, assistant professor of English at Roanoke College, has been chosen to participate in the National Endowment for the Humanities 1993 Summer Institute for College and University Faculty at Northwestern University. She will be one of 25 faculty members examining Italian literature, history and art from 1494-1527.
\ MARGARITE FOURCROY of Roanoke recently received a master of fine arts degree in arts administration from Virginia Tech.
Fourcroy, executive director of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, has a bachelor's degree in music and French from the University of Maryland.
\ STU PEARMAN of Roanoke won the inaugural Southern National Bank Industry Analysis Competition.
Pearman is a master of business administration student at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and another student investigated public generic pharmaceutical firms to determine their potential for investors. The students won a $1000 award.
