IN SCHOOL

MELANIE NEWLON, daughter of Bonnie L. and Richard S. Newlon of Roanoke, is one of 12 Virginia artists and art students to receive awards from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship program.

Newlon received a $4,000 grant for her drawings. She is 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and plans to attend the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.
