BUNGEE JUMP VICTIM ON TOO LONG A CORD

A man who was killed during a bungee jump was attached to a cord that was 70 feet too long, an investigator said.

The company that held the jump, Bungee America, ignored safety standards that would have prevented William Brotherton's death Sunday when he lept from a tethered hot-air balloon over a field, said the report by Carl Finocchiaro, safety committee chairman of the North American Bungee Association.

Brotherton, 20, was taking a free jump in exchange for testing equipment. Police are considering homicide charges against officials of Denver-based Bungee America.
