OBIT-ANDERSON, NORINE HALSEY
ANDERSON, Norine Halsey, 85, of Route #3, Independence, passed away
Wednesday, June 30, 1993, at Twin County Community Hospital, Galax. She was
the widow of Rixey Anderson. Born November 13, 1907, at Mouth of Wilson, she
was the daughter of Allie Halsey and Josie Speeks Halsey. She was a graduate
of Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, and Appalachia State Teachers College.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Ashe County, N.C. and
Grayson County. She was a member of Young's Chapel Baptist Church and co-owner
of Rixey's Market in Independence. She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Vance Halsey, Dublin, and Edward Halsey, Mouth of Wilson. She is survived by a
son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Martha Anderson, Independence; grandson,
Andy Anderson, Independence; sister, Ruth Halsey Freeman, Dobson, N.C.; four
special friends, Greg Greer, Flatridge, Tina Dowell, Cora Lee Testerman, and
Bobby Farmer, all of Independence; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 3, 1993, at 3 p.m. in
Young's Chapel Baptist Church, interment in Bridle Creek Cemetery. The body
will remain at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home and will be taken to the church
thirty minutes preceding service to lie in state. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Flowers will be
appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Independence Rescue
Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, Va. 24348. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home,
Independence, is in charge of arrangements.
