EXTORTION AGAINST TEACHER CHARGED

A former Montgomery County man has been charged with attempting to extort money from one of his former high-school teachers after threatening to report a claim that he was sexually molested by the teacher.

Terrell Durand Poff, 26, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury Thursday. The indictment accuses Poff of attempting to extort $25,000 from the teacher.

Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith said the teacher reported the extortion attempt to Christiansburg police.

Authorities investigated the teacher's complaint and Poff's allegations and found no evidence that the molestation which Poff alleged had actually occurred, Keith said.

The newspaper is withholding the name of the teacher, whom authorities consider the victim in the extortion case.
