SHARE FUNDS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

State police are continuing to investigate a complaint of money missing from a cooperative food program.

Thursday, Dublin Town Council reinstated police Officer J.W. "Tommy" Dobbins, who had been suspended in May without pay pending an investigation into money owed to SHARE Virginia. SHARE is a nonprofit community service and food distribution program for which Dobbins and his wife, Linda, worked as volunteers.

Mayor Benny Keister said Thursday that a state police investigation found no criminal wrongdoing by Tommy Dobbins.

Giles County Commonwealth's Attorney James Hartley, who was appointed special prosecutor for the case, said Friday that the investigation is still pending against Linda Dobbins.

He said the investigation of Tommy Dobbins has concluded and police found no evidence that would warrant prosecuting him.

SHARE obtained a $1,600 judgment in May against the Dobbinses. A SHARE official said the couple's role as hosts for the program was to collect money from Dublin-area participants and forward it to SHARE.

For $13, sales tax and two hours of community service, participants receive a food package valued at about $30. The organization did not receive any money from the Dobbinses in December and January, however, the Dublin participants did receive their food.
