Mary Wood Spencer and Lanny Leck (Chip) Sparks, Jr., are engaged and planning to be married October 9, 1993, in Tarboro, N.C. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lindo Terry Spencer, Sr. She graduated from Tarboro High School, Tarboro, and from Meredith College, Raleigh, N.C., in 1991. She is employed by Wake County. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Leck Sparks, Sr., of Dublin, Va. He graduated from Pulaski County High School, Va., and from Virginia Tech. He is employed by Duke University Medical Center.
