A reception was held on the lawn at the home of the bride's parents.
The double ring ceremony of the celebration and the blessing of the marriage took place at eleven o'clock in the morning. Organist was Judy Wampler Ward.
Mary Henslee Caudill of Wytheville and Anne Kerkhoff Harrison of Charlotte provided guitar and vocal music.
Beth Wessinger Cochran of Wytheville was matron of honor. Mary Slade Barton Moquin of Panama and Anna Barton Baynum of Madison, sisters of the bride, were attendants. Anna Kathleen Carney of Roanoke was flowergirl.
Gary Todd Proco of Concord, N. C., served as best man. Groomsmen were Daryl Blaine Booth of Winston-Salem, David Fleming Moore of New Castle and Mark Wilson Odell of Roanoke.
The bride, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Walter Seignious Barton of Wytheville and granddaughter of Mrs. James Hooks Fulghum, Sr., of Roanoke, is a 1983 graduate of the University of Georgia. She received a Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina and is a licensed Clinical Social Worker employed by the Lewis-Gale Clinic Department of Psychological Medicine.
The groom, son of Richard Russell Showalter, Sr., of Riner and Gladys Willis Showalter of Radford, is a grandson of Lucy Remines Willis of Blacksburg. He graduated in 1983 from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation and Leisure Services. He is employed by Roanoke County Parks and Recreation where he serves as Program Coordinator.
Following a wedding trip, the couple will make their home in Roanoke.
