DOTTER WINS POLE WITH RECORD RUN

Bobby Dotter, a Chicago native with thousands of laps on the Milwaukee Mile, won his first NASCAR Busch Grand National pole position of the year Saturday with a record run in qualifying at the track.

Dotter completed a lap on the wide, flat one-mile oval at 113.845 mph in a Chevrolet Lumina to qualify first for today's Havoline 250.

Jeff Burton will join Dotter on the front row after qualifying at 113.823.

The NASCAR Busch Series is making its first appearance at Milwaukee since 1985. Current NASCAR Winston Cup driver Dick Trickle, then of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., held the previous qualifying record of 112.984 mph, set May 12, 1984.

Dotter won his only other Busch series pole in Louisville, Ky., in his rookie season of 1988. Dotter's only victory in the series came in May 1992 at New River Valley Speedway in Radford.
