POST 3 NORTH KNOCKED OFF BY HALIFAX

Halifax edged Roanoke Post 3 North 5-4 on Saturday at William Byrd High School, handing the hosts their first loss of the year in American Legion baseball.

Drew Bohanon was the star for Halifax (5-1). Bohanon went the distance on the mound and hit a solo home run and a double.

North's Donnie Meadow also hit a solo homer and a double, and Chris Carr went 2-for-2 with two walks.

Keith Bryant (2-1) took the loss in relief of Carr for North (7-1).

In other Legion games:

Shortstop Kelly Dampeer paced Roanoke Post 3 West to two victories over Franklin County Post 6 in a doubleheader at Salem Municipal Field.

Dampeer's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning broke a 3-3 tie and led Roanoke West (4-3) to a 6-3 victory in the first game. Lance Treibel pitched five innings of hitless relief to earn the victory. Franklin County got its runs in the first inning on Riley Hodges' two-run homer and David Perdue's solo shot.

In the second game, Roanoke Post 3 West won 9-5. Dampeer had two hits, including a solo homer; Jason Anderson had two hits and three RBI; and Trey White and Treibel had two hits and two RBI apiece. For Franklin County, Hodges hit a two-run homer and Perdue hit a solo homer, and Rick Young had two hits.

In Martinsville, Randy Blevins hit three doubles and had three RBI to power Tri-County Post 145 to a 16-2 victory over Martinsville Post 42.

Tri-County (5-2) pounded out 12 runs in the seventh inning, eight scoring with two outs.

James Wyatt (2-1) struck out nine and walked two in nine innings to earn the victory.

Franco Martin had two hits for Martinsville, which committed nine errors.
