OBIT HALL, GEORGE RALPH (RED)

HALL, George Ralph (Red), 86, of Pearisburg, died Friday, July 2, 1993, after an extended illness. He was born in Middlesex County on November 19, 1906, the son of the late Beauregard and Annabelle Hudgins Hall. He is survived by his wife, Grace Hall; a daughter, Mildred Ann Wassum, Newport News; two grandchildren, Katherine Hall Wassum and John Andrew Wassum; one sister, Mildred Hall Clarke, Urbanna. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgianna Evans Hall. A graduate of VPI in 1929, Mr. Hall was an active member of the Alumni Club and in 1979 celebrated, with others, the 50 year reunion. While at VPI and a member of the Corps, he won a letter in wrestling, of which he was justly proud. Following graduation, he taught school in Floyd High School until 1936, when he moved to Narrows High School, where he taught for several years before opening a Flower & Gift Shop, which he operated until his retirement. Mr Hall was a Charter Member of the Board of New River Community College, where he served from 1969 to 1981. He was an active member of the Narrows Kiwanis Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows. Mr. Hall served as a member of the Giles County School Board for many years and was serving on the board when the Giles and Narrows High Schools were built. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 5, 1993, at the First United Methodist Church in Narrows at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Ralph M. Kidd officiating. Additional services will be conducted Tuesday, July 6, 1993, at the Lower United Methodist Church, Hartfield, at 1:30 p.m. with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at both churches one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, Narrows, Va. 24124. Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows, is in charge of all arrangements.
