FIRE DAMAGES WILLIAMSON ROAD APARTMENTS

A fire at 1919 Williamson Road on Sunday night caused about $20,000 in damage to an apartment.

Garry Basham, district fire chief, said firefighters were called at 6:33 p.m. to the duplex apartment building near Berglund Chevrolet. He said they could see heavy smoke as they left the station on Noble Avenue Northeast.

It took about 10 minutes for firefighters to control the fire, which was limited to the living room of the upstairs apartment.

Although the upper apartment was damaged by smoke, Basham said, firefighters were able to save the downstairs apartment from any damage.

Basham said the fire apparently was caused by a worn or faulty electrical extension cord.

The upstairs apartment was occupied by Richard C. Baugher. Alan Kendrick was listed as the owner of the building.
