BUCCANEERS EARN SPLIT WITH CANNONS

Salem finished up a suspended game Saturday with a 3-2 loss to the Prince William Cannons but bounced back in the regularly scheduled game to win 4-2 in seven innings of Carolina League baseball.

In the conclusion of a game tied 1-1 before being halted by fog Friday night, Tim Cooper singled in the winning run in the eighth inning off Mark Mesewicz (1-4). After Prince William went up 2-1, Salem's Marty Neff reached first on a bunt single and scored on Ken Bonifay's single and a throwing error to tie it up.

In the second game, Salem sent seven batters to the plate in the third inning and got three runs off Cannons starter Grant Sullivan (1-8). Jon Farrell drove in two with a single and Mike Brown's single drove in another. Chance Sanford's leadoff homer, his eighth, in the fourth gave Salem a 4-1 lead and the Bucs finished off the Cannons.
