CHILDRESS BOWLS 3RD 300 GAME OF YEAR

Tim Childress of Roanoke bowled his third 300 game of the year Monday night at Hilltop Lanes in the Captain and Crew league.

Childress, with a 206 average for the Intimidators, had games of 158, 300 and 237 for a 695 series. Childress said he had one shaky ball in the tenth frame, but other than that it was pretty solid.

On Monday in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Roanoke Stars 16-and-under team defeated SSBA Hawks of Florida 91-71 in Amateur Athletic Union national basketball tournament action.

\ Dag Boyensen of Axton rode his Yamaha to 11th place overall in the American Motorcyclist Association National Motocross Series 250cc event at Red Bud Track 'n Trail in Buchanan, Mich., on Sunday. He earned 17 points by finishing 15th and 10th in the heats. Mike Kiedrowski of Acton, Calif., won both heats for 50 points and the championship on a Kawasaki.

In the 125cc division, Chad Lough of Tazewell finished 36th and 16th on his Suzuki for five points and 19th place. Jeff Emig of Highland, Calif., rode his Yamaha to both heat victories for the title.
