Mel Gibson got a public apology from a London newspaper that said he criticized other movie stars for accepting risque roles, his attorney said Tuesday.

The Daily Express published a story in April saying Gibson was critical of such stars as Madonna, Sharon Stone, Kim Basinger and Richard Gere for accepting "obscene" movie roles.

Gibson's attorney, Michael Skrein, told the High Court the Australian-born actor did not make those remarks or any like them.

Gibson wasn't in court to hear the apology. The newspaper agreed to pay his legal costs.

\ Ted Turner and Jane Fonda are speaking their minds on yet another matter: buffalo.

The media mogul and the movie star are to be speakers at the first International Bison Conference and Trade Show in La Crosse, Wis. Fonda is to address a July 30 luncheon on the health benefits of eating buffalo meat, known for its relatively low fat content. Turner delivers a dinner speech the same day on the inside workings of the bison industry.

The couple own about 4,500 bison on ranches in New Mexico and Montana. Bison growers advocate raising the native buffalo as a hardier, healthier alternative to beef cattle.
