MOUNT TABOR RURITANS NAME PARADE WINNERS

The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club has announced the winners in Blacksburg's seventh annual Fourth of July parade:

\ Best Overall Unit: The League of Women Voters.

\ Best Theme Representation: Slusser's Chapel Church of God.

\ Best Youth Unit: Brownie Troops 206 and 224.

Special blue-ribbon awards went to:

Boy Scout Troop 44.

The Blacksburg Community Band.

Blockbuster Video Kids.

The U.S. Forest Service's Woodsey Owl and Smokey Bear.

The Sierra Club.

Pioneer Girls Club-Blacksburg Christian Fellowship.

The Rush Campaign.

Virginia Tech Department of Entomology.

Montgomery County Democratic Party.

Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

The Good News Community.

The Good News Community also had the most people in its entry and had traveled the greatest distance - from Chicago - to be in the parade.

The grand marshal, Del. Joan Munford, D-Blacksburg, headed up Saturday's parade, which had more than 40 vehicles, marching units, cycling groups and floats.

Judges for the event were Jeanne Boyd, Carol Dallman and Al Leighton.
