CARRIER CORAL SEA SAILS HOME FOR LAST TIME

The USS Coral Sea, a 46-year-old aircraft carrier overhauled at a cost of $200 million in the mid-1980s, is headed for the scrap yard.

The Coral Sea headed up the Chesapeake Bay on Tuesday for dismantling in Baltimore. Crew members had fought since 1990 to find a city where the carrier could be retired as a museum or tourist attraction.

Deals with several cities fell through and the Navy sold the carrier this year to a New York company.
