CHARLES DAY NAMED TO LEAD SCHOOL BOARD

After a quick vote and little discussion Wednesday, the Roanoke School Board elected a new chairman and vice chairman for the 1993-94 academic year.

Former Chairman Finn Pincus, who said he no longer wanted the job, smiled as he turned his seat over to Charles Day, who won by a unanimous vote.

Day, who has been vice chairman for two years, handed his old position to Wendy O'Neil, who won by a 4-3 vote. Board members Marilyn Curtis, Nelson Harris and Jay Turner voted for Curtis.

"Two years is enough," said Pincus, who said the chairman's job took a great deal of time. "You can only juggle the balls so long before the arm gets tired."

Day, 59, is a retired principal for the Roanoke schools. O'Neil, 44, is executive director of the YWCA of Roanoke Valley.
