CHRISTMAS DECORATION FUND DRIVE UNDER WAY

The Vinton Chamber of Commerce is trying to raise $12,000 to buy new Christmas decorations for the downtown area.

Samples of the decorations and banners are displayed at the intersection of Pollard Street and Lee Avenue. The town has used the same decorations for the last 10 years, and they are worn out, said Judy Cunningham of the chamber.

Residents are encouraged to comment on the samples, Cunningham said.

Twenty-five percent of the funds needed have been raised. The money also will be used to buy decorations for two downtown streets - Washington and Virginia avenues - that the chamber hasn't decorated before.

Businesses and individuals who make contributions will be recognized in December. Donations should be made payable to the Vinton Chamber of Commerce and mailed to P.O. Box 83, Vinton 24179. For more information, call 343-1364.
