NORFOLK ST. UNDER NCAA INVESTIGATION

The NCAA is looking into alleged rules violations by Norfolk State University's football program, according to a report published in the Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star. The report alleges that some players received passing grades for courses in which they did no work.

A Norfolk State football player told the newspapers he told an NCAA enforcement official that former head coach Willard Bailey, who resigned in November, gave him an "A" for three recreation courses even though he did not attend class or do any class work.

Norfolk State officials said they were not aware of the NCAA inquiry.

"They have not approached the athletic director and they have not approached the president," athletic director Dick Price said.
