OBIT BAKKELA, CATHERINE SCOTT

BAKKELA, Catherine Scott, of Arlington, Va., died Wednesday, July 7, 1993. She was a management analyst with the Marine Corps. Systems Command in Quantico, Va. She had served the government for over 30 years. Formerly as an administrative assistant to the Director, Marine Corps. History and Museums Division. Prior to her affiliation with the Marine Corps., Mrs. Bakkela worked with Army Aviation, Pentegon. Mrs. Bakkela was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Counts. She attended the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, as a voice major, performing in that field. She also did graduate work in financial management and comptrolling for many years. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Bakkela was also a member of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of D.A.R. and the Society of Military Comptrollers. Surviving is her sister and brother-in-law, Betty C. and John Osterhus; one niece, Laurel Osterhus, all of New Jersey; and many other dear relatives and friends. Services will be conducted at Oakey's North Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Ruth D. Walsh will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Northern Virginia Cancer Center at Alexandria Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Washington, D.C. area. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel, Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va.
