E&H PROFESSOR WINS CONTRACT FOR BIRD BOOK

An associate professor of psychology at Emory & Henry College has been awarded a book contract by the American Ornithologists' Union and National Museum of Natural History.

Steven L. Hopp, an experimental psychologist with a speciality in animal behavior, will write one of a 17-volume series on natural history. His book will focus on birds.

Hopp has done long-term research on a small, shy bird called the white-eyed vireo, taping its songs and using sophisticated computer equipment to analyze them. His interest promoted him to buy a Southwest Virginia farm near the college when he manages plant and animal life to make it a prime habitat for the white-eyed vireo.

He has taught at Emory & Henry since 1984.
