ITT Electro-Optical Products Division has received a $6 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Material Command for design of a new night vision system for use in high-performance aircraft equipped with ejection seats.
The system is helmet-mounted and lightweight to meet requirements of pilots who fly tanker, bomber and fighter aircraft. It will be designed to be the most lightweight, ejection-safe goggle available for use by plane and helicopter pilots.
Neil Gallagher, vice president at the Roanoke plant, said he looks forward to creating with the Air Force the kind of record it has enjoyed for years with the Army. The 13-month contract is the first phase of a three-phase program. - Staff report
