McGuire won the 100-lap Late Model Stock feature of the Unocal/Paper Gold 300 at FCS on Saturday night. The victory was his second this year.
"We've been out here since 10 this morning working on this new car," McGuire said.
McGuire and Dudley Lawhorn qualified with identical times of 14.49 seconds. Lawhorn, a two-time winner during the Fourth of July weekend, started on the pole because he qualified first.
McGuire dogged Lawhorn and grabbed the lead on the 45th lap. McGuire's brother, Tony, passed Lawhorn 17 laps later, and the race became a domestic situation of sorts.
The McGuires battled down the stretch, with Tim winning by about four car lengths. It was the first 1-2 finish for the McGuires in their many years of racing at FCS.
Bobby Radford finished third, and Tracy Owen was fourth. Ronnie Newman, a previous winner this season and third in points, was fifth. Lawhorn's vehicle developed mechanical difficulties, dropping him to 10th.
After engine problems forced points leader Rick Sigmon to park his Oldsmobile, he borrowed Kenny Wagner's Street Stock car and managed to place seventh.
In other races Saturday night at FCS:
John Hall posted his third victory of the season in the Mini Stocks, tightening the points race. Points leader Steve Lynch overtook pole-sitter Tommy Dean late in the race to finish second. Dean placed third.
Street Stock division dominator Phillip VanDerVeer won for the 10th time in 15 starts, overcoming pole-sitter Freddie Goff early. Goff was second, ahead of Leon Dalton, who continued his run of strong performances.
Top qualifier (17.00 seconds) Red Hartman outlasted seven-time winner R.W. Lawhorn to prevail in the Pure Stock race. Lawhorn retained a 60-point advantage for the season with a second-place finish. Kevin Ransom placed third.
