WATER DONATIONS SOUGHT

A Roanoke television station has teamed up with the Quibell Corp. to provide drinking water to the flood-ravaged Midwest.

WSLS-TV will collect donations that will be used to buy water from Quibell, a Roanoke bottler of spring water, and ship it to central Iowa.

Quibell will make the first donation - the first 1,000 cases of water - then will sell the water at cost for the relief effort. About $6,000 is needed for each truckload, which contains 12,000 1.5-liter bottles of nonsparkling spring water.

Quibell plans to pay all shipping costs for the donated water.

WSLS will collect donations at three area malls - Valley View in Roanoke, River Ridge in Lynchburg and New River Valley in Christiansburg - today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations also may be sent to: "The Spirit of Virginia Flood Relief Fund," NationsBank, P.O. Box 14111, Roanoke 24022-4111.
