You know. The leading edge of that cold front that passed through here a couple of days ago. Or maybe today. Or, we hope, tomorrow.
No? You're not alone.
Weather forecasters say the heat wave of '93 is finally loosening its grip on the East Coast. But how much is hard to tell.
Instead of having near-record heat, now it's just plain hot.
The difference is a matter of degree.
It all started Sunday when a cold front, seemingly forever stalled over the Midwest, clicked into low gear and began creeping toward Virginia.
That movement allowed cooler, drier air to begin mixing with the sauna-like air over Virginia. The result?
"Highs are in the low 90s now instead of the high 90s," said Chip Knappenberger, a climatologist with the state climatology office in Charlottesville.
That's small relief considering that the average high in Roanoke is about 86 degrees in July.
The good news is that the main part of the cold front is on its way.
Forecasters say highs will stay in the low 90s for most of the week.
Clouds should start rolling in Thursday, with a good chance of thunderstorms.
Temperatures should return to normal by the weekend, with highs in the middle 80s.
"We're flirting with the cold front right now," Knappenberger said. "The door is open. It's just got to push on through."
