DuPont to idle 160 in Richmond
RICHMOND - DuPont will lay off about 160 workers at its Richmond Spruance fibers plant to cut costs and streamline its fibers division, the company said Tuesday.
The October layoffs will make DuPont's fiber manufacturing more competitive worldwide, a company statement said.
Idled will be about 60 hourly employees, 60 secretarial and clerical employees and 40 management employees, plant manager John L. Grohusky said. - Associated Press
GM to raise prices on '94 cars, trucks
DETROIT - Amid an increasingly robust automotive market, the General Motors Corp. said Tuesday it would raise the prices of its 1994 models by an average of 1.5 percent for cars and 2.2 percent for trucks.
At the same time, more equipment that had been optional would become standard and included in the price of a vehicle, the company said.
The Japanese automakers are expected to announce steeper price increases for their 1994 models, on top of sharp increases this year.
