OBIT HARDY, KATHRYNE SHANNON
HARDY, Kathryne Shannon died Tuesday, July 13, 1993 at The Danville
Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of Frank Harrison and Inez
Showalter Shannon. She was born in West Union, W. Va. but later moved with her
family to Washington, D.C. where she graduated as valedictorian of her class
at Central High. She attended George Washington University. On February 29,
1932 she was married to John Thomas Hardy who survives. As a member of St.
John's United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Administrative Board,
founder of the Young Adult Class as well as teaching an Adult Bible Class. She
lived in Galveston and Dallas Texas; Roanoke and Norfolk, Virginia, and New
Rochelle, New York, where she attended the United Methodist Church, she
actively served as a member of the official board, taught the Ladies' Bible
Class, and was president of the United Methodist Women's organization. While
living in Norfolk she was president of the Gray Ladies Society of Norfolk
General Hospital. She participated in the women's organizations of V.M.I. and
Fishburne Military School. In addition to her husband, survivors include two
children, Kay H. Viles of Corpus Christi, Texas and John S. Hardy of Fairfax,
Va; four grandchildren, John C. and Christopher Viles, Houston, Texas, and
Kathryne and Ashley Hardy of Fairfax; two sisters, Prudence S. Freece of
Heatherville, Va. and Grace S. Vicellio-Mooney, Roman Eagle Memorial Home,
Danville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at St.
John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Knowles-Tuell and Rev. R.
Fletcher Hardy conducting the service. The family requests no flowers.
Memorials may be sent to St. John's United Methodist Church or Fishburne
Military School, Waynesboro, Va. Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
